Option 2: Hi-Fi Cast for Androidįor Android users who don’t want to deal with all of Plex’s setup, the Hi-Fi Cast app is a fine alternative, especially if your phone has ample storage or a MicroSD card slot for holding a large music collection. The Plexamp app will be an even better way to play music once it gets Chromecast support. Chromecast support is currently in development. If you’re a Plex Pass subscriber, I also suggest checking out Plexamp, an excellent alternative app that’s strictly focused on music instead of all media types. Select any of your Google Home speakers, speaker groups, Chromecast devices, then choose some music to start playing. Plex should find your media server automatically, and you should see the Cast icon on the screen. Just visit or download Plex’s apps for iOS or Android, then sign in with the same account with which you set up the server. Once you’ve dealt with all that setup, using Plex is fairly easy. Using Plex with Chromecast and Google Home Be sure to read Plex’s devices and limitations page as well. Instructions for NAS setup vary depending on the manufacturer, but you can start by visiting Plex’s download page to get the appropriate software. Plex’s web app lets you manage your music library, even with the Shield TV. Locate the “Music” section in the sidebar, hit the vertical “…” button, then select Manage Library > Edit > Add folders. If your music files are on an external hard drive, set up Plex to scan those files by visiting.(Detailed Shield installation instructions are available on Plex’s website.) Download the regular Plex app, which should detect your Shield and offer to install the media server. To change where Plex looks for music files on your computer, head to . Locate the “Music” section in the sidebar, hit the vertical “…” button, then select Manage Library > Edit > Add folders. This will allow Plex to scan for music files and stream them to your other devices. Usually served at Cherry Blossom festivals, sakura mochi is pink, just like cherry blossoms, and filled with anko, or red bean paste. Though dango has many of the same components, it is not officially mochi. Dangoĭango is a traditional dumpling made from a starch called mochiko, the same component of ice cream mochi. One could even add more mochi to their udon, as it can take on a bit of the flavor of the traditional fish broth. While Udon itself is easy to find with or without mochi, Chikara Udon is the type that will always include mochi. Plain kirimochi can be wrapped in soy paper, dipped in sauce, and enjoyed that way. It is possible (and commonplace) to top kirimochi with something sweet, but this doesn’t happen as frequently as using it as a savory snack, or part of a meal. The Savory: Kirimochiīlocks of mochi that are toasted, topped with bean sprouts, or more frequently, used in stews and soups. The flavor is grassy, and reminiscent of strong green teas, and is used at tea ceremonies. Kusa Mochi (Grass Mochi)Īs the name would insinuate, kusa mochi is flavored with kusa, a wild grass that is alternately shunned as a root, and used in medicine across Europe and Asia. Served warm with a spoon, oshiruko behaves like a soup, and satisfies like a candy. OshirukoĪ sweet dessert soup made from red beans, it is topped with mochi, and a dessert favorite throughout Japan and Taiwan. Daifuku is also filled with white or red bean paste. As many varieties of daifuku as are available, it could be in a category all its own, but it is prepared and eaten the same way as mochi, so it easily fits under the mochi umbrella. Some daifuku is filled with cake and whipped cream, and some are flavored with different sweet pastes. Daifukuĭaifuku has a several different ways of being served, but most are filled with sweet paste, and a whole, juicy strawberry. Red bean, black sesame, mango, and plum wine are flavors that are popular throughout Japan, and make delicious ends to any meal. With the variety of flavors available, some specific to the country, you won’t run out of interesting and exciting options. While mochi ice cream is made by a variety of ice cream companies, both inside and outside of Japan, it is probably the best-known dessert to come out of Japan. Mochi in any form is normally topped with something starchy to make it easier to eat with your hands, but some simply necessitate the use of forks or dessert sticks. Here, what we know is the sweet little balls of rice with ice cream centers that could rule the world if they had little swords and shields, but there is more to mochi than the sweet frozen treats that we know here in the United States. Mochi isn’t just a passing fad in its home country, Japan, but a different way of eating food. With so Many Different Types, You’ll Never Get Bored! I have my switch plugged into my monitor. Creating Certainty In Life’s Most Complex Moments Which is why fans of old-school games, especially those who are old themselves, will appreciate the fast ninja action of Cyber Shadow. Doubly so since this isn't a new version of an old game it's all new, and one that gets creative, though never in a break-the-genre kind of way. But if you like a challenge and are either old enough to remember the era of the original NES and Sega Genesis or just have a fondness for 30-year-old arcade games, you'll appreciate this game's aesthetic and arcade gameplay. The same if you're not into super-hard games, ones where you have to jump at just the right spot and where enemies have an endless supply of ammo and know just where to stand to make it really hard (though not impossible) for you to get past them without getting shot. Now, if you're not a fan of old-school arcade games from the '80s and '90s - like, fittingly, the original Ninja Gaiden - you won't enjoy this game's pixilated look or simple hack-and-slash, run-and-jump gameplay. Good thing Shadow has his trusty sword for hacking and slashing, as well as his equally trusty leg muscles for running and jumping. To do so, you have to run and jump through a hazard-filled, side-scrolling world full of steam vents, high jumps, turrets, and creepy crawlies. But before you can fully heal and complete your physical therapy, you're pulled out and set on a mission to save the members of your clan from the greedy Dr. In Cyber Shadow, you play as a ninja named Shadow who's badly injured in an explosion. I'll check them out. While some might not enjoy this game's old-school look and gameplay, or its toughness, fans of vintage arcade games will have fun on this nostalgia trip. Thanks for mentioning the other newer games. If only they had consulted me as a play tester. Maybe I'll come around more as I tackle the harder feats. It's still a ninja game, so I have to play it. It sounds more like taking a drive on the highway. And it does not get you fired up to destroy. It has glitches in timing between sections or repeats that sound like missed loop points, a distracting and sloppy problem. Welcome to Mekacity or, what’s left of it. Aarne 'MekaSkull' Hunziker Developer, Mechanical Head Studios Greetings traveler, it’s great to see you within operational specification. I know that's true to form for NES, but it's not satisfying to me in a modern game. JanuCyber Shadow tips 5 things to know before starting 2 0 55 A guide to getting started in your side-scrolling trip through Mekacity. Once you learn the patterns, even the harder boss fights are a matter of doing the same thing over and over with few mistakes, like 8-bit Mega Man. You're never really challenged to figure something out or react with good instincts. As a ninja, I want to run and jump and slash and kill everything in sight. If I wanted to sit around and wait for things to happen, I would go to the department of motor vehicles and read a book. #2, several levels involve waiting for AI and various moving level geometry for the right moment to proceed. It's like trying to play Super Meat Boy with Castlevania controls sometimes. We've had games with great player physics and tight controls since Super Mario, so it's hard to endure less responsiveness. I'm currently on my second playthrough of Cyber Shadow unlocking the "feats", warming a little to it. I am disappointed that creators / hackers here do not have the exposure or financial acknowledgement of their labors of love, when their work is enjoyed by others.Ĭan someone recommend a better retro ninja-like game (preferably available on Xbox One)?Īnd is it against the terms or spirit of RHDN to offer or solicit donations for hacks? (As well as other notable NES hacks here, such as Metroid Rogue Dawn and Contra Red Falcon.) Windows 11 Home AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Processor GeForce RTX 4070 12GB GDDR6X Video Card 16GB (16GBx1) DDR5/6000MHz Memory ASRock B650M-C AM5 Micro ATX Motherboard 2TB WD Blue SN580 M.2 PCIe SSD. Honestly, the Deadpool hack of Ninja Gaiden was a far more enjoyable experience, which I have put much more playing time into. Most of all, the level design, AI and controls do not seem to foster the "flow" experience of a good platformer. The music is sterile and weak, lacking the punch and vigor of a good NES soundtrack. What kind of ninja cannot crouch!? Boss battles are mostly boring. Split-second timing is hard to achieve and not rewarded. Because it's such an obvious nod to Ninja Gaiden and a few other golden NES games, I watched this game for a couple of years before it was finally released last month.Īaaand I'm disappointed. Film: MYLOįilmmaker: Asia Samson Filmmaker Bio: Asia SamsonĪsia Samson is an overlanding content creator that started his YouTube channel Baptism Overland in 2017. Along the way they met an array of amazing people and pushed their bodies (and relationship) to the limits in some of the most beautiful locations on Earth. They took their vehicle on a 45,000-mile tour of North America, crossing the continent 7 times and visiting all 49 states and most of Canada in less than 8 months. Two years after this duo started living together in their beloved vehicle – the Peace Love Car started to die.Īfter their mechanic declared that, due to a rusting unibody, the PLC had only about a year to live, Sam and Raquel decided to take it on a final farewell. Its custom-built shocks bear 1,500lbs of adventure gear with nary a squeak (OK, not true), and it has transported its occupants with moderate reliability across almost half a million miles of open road. A solar panel on the roof provides power for the fridge, the seats fold down into a bed, and the oven under the hood can cook you a perfect burrito. Meet Sam Salwei, Raquel Hernandez, and the Peace Love Car – two charmingly talented wanderers and their trusty (if quirky) steed. What would it be like to live a life of true wanderlust?Ī life where home is 28 square feet inside a 1988 Ford Festiva, and your days are filled with travel, teaching, and spectacular adventures. Raquel perfectly complements Sam with her extensive training in Yoga, AcroYoga, Slacklining, and Healing Arts. He typically can be found aweing crowds with his spectacles at every opportunity. Sam Salwei co-founded the YogaSlackers in 2005, and his passion for Slacklining has only grown since then. What they lack in square footage for living space, they make up for with the wealth of expertise and knowledge they bring with them. Whether it’s driving coast-to-coast, or hopping on an airplane to travel overseas, the motivation is usually the same: bringing their passion for traveling and slacklining to students all over the world. Limitations are a foreign concept to this teaching duo, as they spend their time traveling the world and fulfilling their dreams of being true modern-day nomads. YogaSlackers Sam Salwei and Raquel Hernández are lovers of movement. You’ll find Jeeps, Tundras, and Land Rover Discos all getting along! The cavernous Underworld environment also comes with all the new features expected of an open world expansion, such as quests to undertake and new enemy types to challenge, along with new equipment like the crossbow, sawed-off shotgun, and a classy 1930s pinstripe suit. Players can access Underworld's new content once they've left the gates of the game's first area. Underground rivers, trees, root systems, and giant glowing mana crystals come together to form an otherworldly environment that is refreshingly distinct from the ruined town above. The underground setting doesn't necessarily mean the environment is cramped and dungeon-like, however, as the Underworld is surprisingly open and populated with its own strange ecosystem. The new Underworld DLC has players leaving Dysmantle's post-apocalyptic landscape and heading into an expansive underground cavern system. RELATED: Survival Crafting Game Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria Announced A wide range of crafting options and the abundance of materials mean players are always making some form of progress no matter what they're doing. Players explore a sprawling open world, with progression tied to the dismantling of environmental objects for materials in order to build stronger weapons and tools. Dysmantle continues this tradition with its top-down twin-stick execution of the familiar crafting survival genre. 10tons' games tend to have an isometric, twin-stick control scheme as seen in roguelike shooter Neon Chrome and Judge Dredd-inspired JYDGE. Gamers looking for a fresh indie game to sink some time into may enjoy the crafting sandbox of Dysmantle and its new expansion.ĭysmantle was released in November 2021 after almost exactly one year in early access and quickly became 10ton's bestselling game on Steam despite the indie studio's already impressive collection of well-received titles. This way, we get a small portion of the sale and this helps me run the website.10tons' isometric crafting exploration game Dysmantle has released its first DLC, Underworld, which takes players into a vast underground region where new quests, weapons, and enemies can be discovered. So with that said, DYSMANTLE looks to be another winner for 10tons and the Nintendo Switch version of the game seems to be just as good as its console and PC counterparts.ĭYSMANTLE is available now on Nintendo Switch for pre-order and will launch on March 31, 2022.ĭisclaimer: Received game from developer and/or publisher for coverage purposes. While DYSMANTLE might not be as graphically appealing as some other games, I think it looks good enough for the type of game it is. You can see how they combined a lot of different ideas from other games too into this one and somehow, they work together, cohesively. There’s a good chunk of exploration, action, crafting, and making your character stronger. They put a lot of thought into the type they wanted to create and for the most part, they’ve achieved their goal. This is 10tons first foray into this type of game and DYSMANTLE is a good first outing. Progression however seems pretty natural so you won’t have an issue there. These are things that have to be unlocked while you progress through the game. When you’re not fighting infected you can also partake in other activities such as hunting, fishing, and farming. Like a lot of these survival-type games, there’s a lot to do. Not to say that the control are terrible, but they just don’t feel as responsive as their previous games.Īside from that, you’ll find DYSMANTLE to be a fairly deep game. Not really sure if switching to their more traditional twin-stick layout would have helped things, but there isn’t even an option to try that. Your survivor is kind of slow and attacks can be a bit clunky. I will say that the movement and controls in this game aren’t quite as fluid as in some of their previous games. Exploration also comes with dangers as there will be infected creatures roaming the land that you will either need to run away from or engage and defeat. This will help you find the materials you need for crafting, upgrading, and leveling. Exploring could mean entering new areas, going into abandoned buildings, and even just exploring the woods. Another aspect of the game is just exploration and opening up the world in general. ruining everything) is just one aspect of the game and so is crafting and leveling up. In terms of gameplay, DYSMANTLE is pretty straightforward. Gameplay from the Early Access Steam version. Character models, especially those for Rinna, Rummy, and Loreille (the game's female characters) are as colorful, smooth, and pleasing as you'd expect from a PS2-powered 3D RPG, but scenery detail and spellcasting effects are laughably simple. Graphically, both Dark Cloud and the upcoming Final Fantasy X offer more bang for the buck in terms of visual splendor. Whether you love or hate the game's clichés and shortcomings, Ephemeral Fantasia is nothing more than average when compared with the majority of other RPGs. The artificial time loop doesn't help matters any either-if you miss the chance to acquire an important item, you'll have to wait five full game days for a second opportunity. Combined with frequent random battles, this makes travel from one town to the next a highly time-consuming and labor-intensive endeavor. The island itself is a single, huge area full of forests, beaches, towns, and dungeons, all of which exist on a 1-to-1 scale with one another. Second, the game's scope is overwrought on so many levels. There are no surprise plot twists or major whodunits to discover-only an endless array of sex-related jokes to endure en route to the final battle with Xelpherpolis. First, the game's storyline is woefully immature and noncomplex. Lack of originality aside, the two greatest criticisms of Ephemeral Fantasia are actually somewhat significant. Even Rummy, Mouse's hotheaded, big-breasted soldier friend, is strikingly similar to another SquareSoft creation, Tifa from Final Fantasy VII. In all, there are 10 possible party members to enlist, some of which can even alter the outcome of the game depending on how well you communicate with them-yet another classic SquareSoft idea. Some enemies, like Grantus or Beak, will even join your party once they're defeated. In addition to the active battle system, which lets you select attacks, cast magic, use items, and change strategy in real time, the constant appearance of enemies with multiple forms is something ripped right out of Square's collective conscious. These minigames don't have much bearing on the overall outcome of the story, but a little extra gold, map pieces, or health items can't hurt.īy far, Ephemeral Fantasia takes the majority of its design clichés from two of SquareSoft's larger series, Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger. Also like Shenmue, or more recently, Sony's Dark Cloud, Ephemeral Fantasia features a number of optional minigames, such as rhythm-based guitar playing, swimming, arena fighting, dominoes, and even a drinking competition. So much so that if you're not in the proper place at the proper time and not with the proper person and holding the proper item, you'll have to wait an entire game-based week to try again. This timer plays a major role in being able to access dungeons, acquire items, and enlist new party members. Like Sega's Shenmue, the game has its own running clock. Time looping, an idea borrowed from Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, isn't the only RPG cliché present in Ephemeral Fantasia. As long as you remember to store your items in Claire's broken clock between loops, you won't lose any money or health potions either. Each week gives you an opportunity to acquire an additional party member, as well as complete tasks related to the time loop, level your characters in battle, or just explore various spots around the island. As you continually relive the next five days of your life, your primary task is to enlist partners in your quest against Xelpherpolis.
