The cavernous Underworld environment also comes with all the new features expected of an open world expansion, such as quests to undertake and new enemy types to challenge, along with new equipment like the crossbow, sawed-off shotgun, and a classy 1930s pinstripe suit. Players can access Underworld's new content once they've left the gates of the game's first area. Underground rivers, trees, root systems, and giant glowing mana crystals come together to form an otherworldly environment that is refreshingly distinct from the ruined town above. The underground setting doesn't necessarily mean the environment is cramped and dungeon-like, however, as the Underworld is surprisingly open and populated with its own strange ecosystem. The new Underworld DLC has players leaving Dysmantle's post-apocalyptic landscape and heading into an expansive underground cavern system. RELATED: Survival Crafting Game Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria Announced A wide range of crafting options and the abundance of materials mean players are always making some form of progress no matter what they're doing. Players explore a sprawling open world, with progression tied to the dismantling of environmental objects for materials in order to build stronger weapons and tools. Dysmantle continues this tradition with its top-down twin-stick execution of the familiar crafting survival genre. 10tons' games tend to have an isometric, twin-stick control scheme as seen in roguelike shooter Neon Chrome and Judge Dredd-inspired JYDGE. Gamers looking for a fresh indie game to sink some time into may enjoy the crafting sandbox of Dysmantle and its new expansion.ĭysmantle was released in November 2021 after almost exactly one year in early access and quickly became 10ton's bestselling game on Steam despite the indie studio's already impressive collection of well-received titles. So with that said, DYSMANTLE looks to be another winner for 10tons and the Nintendo Switch version of the game seems to be just as good as its console and PC counterparts.ĭYSMANTLE is available now on Nintendo Switch for pre-order and will launch on March 31, 2022.ĭisclaimer: Received game from developer and/or publisher for coverage purposes. While DYSMANTLE might not be as graphically appealing as some other games, I think it looks good enough for the type of game it is. You can see how they combined a lot of different ideas from other games too into this one and somehow, they work together, cohesively. There’s a good chunk of exploration, action, crafting, and making your character stronger. They put a lot of thought into the type they wanted to create and for the most part, they’ve achieved their goal. This is 10tons first foray into this type of game and DYSMANTLE is a good first outing. Progression however seems pretty natural so you won’t have an issue there. These are things that have to be unlocked while you progress through the game. When you’re not fighting infected you can also partake in other activities such as hunting, fishing, and farming. Like a lot of these survival-type games, there’s a lot to do. Not to say that the control are terrible, but they just don’t feel as responsive as their previous games.Īside from that, you’ll find DYSMANTLE to be a fairly deep game. Not really sure if switching to their more traditional twin-stick layout would have helped things, but there isn’t even an option to try that. Your survivor is kind of slow and attacks can be a bit clunky. I will say that the movement and controls in this game aren’t quite as fluid as in some of their previous games. Exploration also comes with dangers as there will be infected creatures roaming the land that you will either need to run away from or engage and defeat. This will help you find the materials you need for crafting, upgrading, and leveling. Exploring could mean entering new areas, going into abandoned buildings, and even just exploring the woods. Another aspect of the game is just exploration and opening up the world in general. ruining everything) is just one aspect of the game and so is crafting and leveling up. In terms of gameplay, DYSMANTLE is pretty straightforward. Gameplay from the Early Access Steam version.
